Mallyx without cheats
My partner and I tried and failed to kill Mallyx using heroes many times before realising that we just weren't good enough to take the monkey out and resorted to using SY, consumables and turning on LB title before finally defeating him. It got me thinking though, since the gate glitch was fixed I don't recall seeing any screenshots of teams beating him without using pve shortcuts at all.
Is this just because they haven't boasted or is he really that hard? Can anyone attest to defeating him in NM without using glitches, cons or pve skills/lb title?

Yes, our first dozen or so attempts were without the lb title, the next few were with it and SY, the last resort was with consumables which took us through first try (thank goodness too, because we only had the quest reward ones). EOTN was just out when this happened so neither my Warrior nor her Nec had any of the new pve skills yet otherwise we probably would have used those too.

I've killed him twice, but that was in full Ursan teams spamming skill #1 exclusively. I've never tried going non-Ursan (mainly because non-Ursan teams cannot be found now).
If you want to form a team, let me know and I'll join up if it's at a convenient time and I have Mallyx unlocked.
I do however disagree with 1 point you made. I don't consider displaying my lb title cheating. If you want to limit the bar to no PvE skills then that's fine, but I'm keeping the lb title. It only makes sense to display it in these areas and that's what it was meant for.

Well, I know people have defeated Mallyx without consumables or PvE skills. I am 99% sure they were using the lightbringer title and weren't using heroes though. The way I see it the lightbringer title shouldn't make TOO much of a difference, its main effect is letting you kill faster, it does almost nothing to help you survive vs mallyx.

Bring several hard resses, physicals, lots of passive defense, and very little AoE.
The biggest threat is obviously enraged. At the second threshold you're taking hundreds of damage from spells, so any AoE is going to cause huge problems if you're not using a skill like SY. Focus single target damage with KDs and daze once stuff gets low on health. Stunning Strike with Infuriating Heat provides a constant and reliable source of dazed, while an Earthshaker warrior can keep several enemies pinned at once.
Mallyx is the least of your concerns. Two Gaze of Fury (can easily be slotted on a /rt) with a single interrupt allows you to knock out the 50% miss and -2 energy spirits quickly. Mallyx will always shadowstep you when he hits; unless he can kill you in one hit he poses no threat. Just remember to keep enchantment use to a minimum (easy on the Prot Spirit monks) and any hexes/conditions off him.

Does that mean that you've done it Rac? I'm more interested in knowing if others have rather than doing it myself (I admitted defeat months ago )
That was pretty much the strategy we used, except that we used unnatural signet on our HeV (pre-nerf) Norgu to achieve the same result. The issues we had were attributed to producing a team that could survive the initial wave (and keep that accursed snake alive) whilst not having any enchantments, hexes or condition causing skills. Where you go for physicals, we went down the track of replacing enchants with protective spirits and hexes with offensive/environmental spirits. The offense did work nicely but the protective ones would die way too soon. What we missed the most was the Fire Ele + They're on Fire paragon combo which mitigated alot of the pressure through the lead up zones.
With regards to the LB title thing - the purist in me says it should be off because it gives an advantage over someone who hasn't done 5000 worm runs, but the realist would probably concede to the argument that DoA was probably designed with a high level LB in mind, so feel free to ignore that requirement.

Bring normal builds, to an extent. Mallyx disabling any skills is only really threatening if the Margonites or Tormented enemies have appeared and he disables some key skills. Otherwise Shadow Smash means you just need a strong heal to survive him alone; his other skills don't do anything scary. If he does disable anything key because you had to use an enchantment against him (monk gets KDed, prot spirit it fast from the other monk) just wait for the skills to come back before reducing his health to one of the spawn points.

The spirits have thousands of health. My paragon's auto-attacks were hitting for something like a hundred damage and their bar wasn't moving.

Take it, just disable the burning skills against Mallyx. Re-enable when he spawns margos and torments, disable when they drop. If he gets hit with the burning AoE and heals for a little, no big deal. It's just 300 health, with the LB title a warrior can remove that pretty quickly. When he is alone he is no threat; he wanders a lot and rarely attacks.

Somewhat, five heroes three humans, without the consumables and without a 'good' SY build on my paragon. That was the first time going after him as well, with the experience I have now from cons + PvE skills runs I have no doubt it would be possible without them. Eventually when we were going against Mallyx we brought hexes, conditions, and enchantments because the waves were the hardest part. Mallyx can become difficult if you've built any DP because that means he can one shot that player, forcing you to use Protective Spirit more often to prevent more DP.

The closest I got was with a friend of mine (him on two accounts) and 5 heroes.
He first did the feat on his own with 2 accounts and 6 heroes. The build used Savanah heat, feast of corruption, wells, curses, ward vs harm, mantra of frost, ranger spirits, deep freeze, maelstorm. Stuff blew up quickly and when stuff did enrage they just missed us, or got interrupted. No tank (well... or everybody tanking, depends on how you look at it). For the fight against mallyx half the skillbars were unusable and that was a problem sometimes.
No consumables, no pve-skills, except for what was available when nightfall came out (lb-gaze and the LB title enabled, LB-gaze only on 2 chars, 1 even when he did it alone), no moving the priest and no gate-bug. We tried without the LB-title, but we ran into DPS issues, the difference was too big.
Like Racthoh says, DP is the biggest worry at mallyx. Although with the build we used DP usually meant wipe, as the two monks were the only ones with a res, and that was typically disabled anyway (my friend would only manually order a monk to res if the other monk had died, but usually he was already frustrated about having a death and wanted to restart).
Unfortunately several skillnerfs severely damaged the build we used and we concluded it was unusable afterwards - goodbye Energising winds
3 eles, 2 necros, 1 ranger and 2 monks was real nice to do it with tho, especially since everybody allways brings the lamest tanks there.
